These are some of the processes and avenues that you can look into should you have issues, complaints or questions regarding councils and goverment agencies.

Obviously everyone has their own set of council members. We have included the Upper Hutt City contacts.

We are more than happy to add other councils details.

Public Accountability

Our current public accountability system is derived from our constitutional arrangements and is based on the United Kingdom's Westminster "chain" of accountability.

The chain of accountability starts with the public official's accountability to their chief executive and ends with Parliament's accountability to the public.

The chain provides a clear set of well-defined accountability relationships for holding to account those responsible for delivering public services

Government Acts for Local Government (Councils)

This is where you will find the proceesses that Council must abide by

This act provides the processes around thr ratings systems for councils

This act is the controlling document for how council will communicate with the public.

Petitions

Under the Standing orders for your Council you should find the rules for Petitions....

They vary from Council to Council....e.g. UHCC limited their Petitions to 150 Words, 20 signatures and must be submitted to be put on an agenda at least 5 working days prior to the meeting. UHCC standing orders on petitions is under section 17.

When writing a petition be very clear on what you are wanting and outcomes.
